Message from Invest in Canada CEO Laurel Broten

I’m thrilled to release Invest in Canada’s FDI Report 2022 – my first since joining Invest in Canada as CEO. The year 2022 was another pivotal year for foreign direct investment (FDI) in Canada.

FDI continued its 10-year growth trajectory, reaching $64.6 billion. While this falls short of 2021 levels when FDI reached a 15-year high of $82.3 billion, a look behind the numbers reveals important results.

In 2022, Canada established itself as a leading global player in the electric vehicle (EV) revolution with the birth of an end-to-end EV battery supply chain. This once-in-a-generation opportunity will allow Canada to strengthen supply chains in critical minerals, EVs and semiconductors. Canada also drew investments in other sustainable industries like clean technologies, clean energy transition and plant-based proteins. Further, Canada continues to draw sustained investment from key global players and countries including Australia, Singapore and the United Kingdom, which have emerged as high-growth investor countries.
